Tried and Tested: A ChatGPT Study and Evaluation
We analysed ChatGPT and in this blog find out what we learnt about its AI powers.
What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is a natural language processing tool which is run by AI technology which can allow a user to ask questions, compose emails, essays and code and even replicate human-like conversations. The language model is taking the internet by storm at the moment and can create live chat-like conversions and is currently free to use.
That’s what we think ChatGPT is all about, but why not ask it itself?
We asked ChatGPT: What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT replied: ChatGPT is a large language model trained by OpenAI. It is capable of generating human-like text in a wide range of styles and formats, such as conversation, poetry, and news articles. It can also be fine-tuned for specific tasks, such as answering questions or generating code.

Their response was nice right? They accurately described their features in a simplistic, understandable way and it only took around 5 seconds to generate.
Research – What can it really do?
A Quick SEO QUIZ
Say you wanted to know some facts about SEO, you could ask ChatGPT how much are SEO services, what is SEO, and how are SEO and AI related.
Think, how could ChatGPT assist and educate you on these topics?
Us: What is SEO?
SEO stands for “Search Engine Optimization.” It is the process of optimizing a website or online content to improve its ranking in search engine results pages (SERPs) for specific keywords or phrases. SEO involves making technical and creative changes to a website or content to make it more attractive to search engines, such as Google.
This can include things like adding relevant keywords to the website’s meta tags and content, building backlinks to the site from other reputable websites, and ensuring that the site’s code and structure are optimized for search engines to crawl and index the site’s content. The goal of SEO is to increase the quantity and quality of traffic to a website from search engines.
Us: How much are SEO services in the UK?
ChatGPT: The cost of SEO services in the UK can vary greatly depending on the company offering the services, the scope and complexity of the project, and the level of experience and expertise of the SEO professionals working on the project.
On the lower end, some companies may charge a few hundred pounds per month for basic SEO services, such as keyword research and on-page optimization. On the higher end, larger projects or more complex campaigns can cost several thousand pounds per month.
Additionally, some SEO companies may charge on an hourly basis, which could be around £50-£150 per hour. It’s important to keep in mind that SEO results are not instant and it takes time to see the results.
It’s always a good idea to research different SEO companies and compare their services and pricing before making a decision. It’s also important to have a clear understanding of what services are included in the cost and what the expected results are.
Us: How are SEO and AI related?
ChatGPT: SEO and AI are related in several ways. One of the main ways is through the use of machine learning algorithms to analyze and understand large amounts of data related to search engines ranking factors, such as website traffic and user behaviour. This data can then be used to optimize a website or online content for search engines in a more efficient and effective way.
AI can also be used in the process of keyword research, where AI-powered tools can analyze large amounts of data and identify the keywords and phrases that are most likely to drive relevant traffic to a website. This can help SEO professionals to more effectively target their optimization efforts.
Another way AI is related to SEO is through the use of chatbots and virtual assistants, which can be used to improve the user experience on a website by providing instant answers to user queries, this could help to improve the website’s ranking in SERPs.
Additionally, AI can also be used to detect and prevent search engine spam and black hat SEO techniques that can harm a website’s ranking.
Overall, the use of AI in SEO is still in the early stages, but it’s clear that it has the potential to revolutionize the way SEO is done by making it more efficient, accurate, and effective.
Pretty impressive right? We would say so. The responses from ChatGPT took around 5-15 seconds as the responses were quite large. Not only were they not too basic, but they also had a detailed and clear explanation of the points that the bot was making.
How could things this support digital marketers? Well, it can generate in-depth, realistic and accurate content in seconds allowing digital marketers to cut down the content creation process.
Now, we’re definitely not saying that it overtakes your human team of content writers – that’s not realistic. But, it can allow them to generate content quicker and more efficiently which means clients could be receiving their content much faster.
Can you get the same results from a Google search and reading a couple of articles? Sure, but this provides instantaneous results and content.
Let’s give it a harder task, should we?
PR and Press Releases
Us: Can you write me a PR piece about ROAR Digital Marketing rebranding their new website?
Here at ROAR we regularly send out press releases to a list of news publications when we have new developments and exciting news.

What we really liked about the ability to create press releases was how well the AI tool was able to communicate our mission and values through its choice of language. Showing how devoted we are to our clients and providing them with the best services we can.
Is the structure perfect? Certainly not, there’s a huge 4 line paragraph in what is supposed to be a short, sweet press release but it’s nothing a quick proof can’t fix. Proofing seems like a necessity though with the chatbot ChatGPT having to make some choices and guesses, like in the logo part. The bot talks about how our logo represents innovation and is a symbol of dedication (although we believe in all of these things) this could simply be untrue and a guess.
However, the press release is in an appropriate tone for our audience and covers our announcement well.

P.S. Don’t forget to ask about our free PPC audit, where we’ll take a look at your current campaigns and provide you with actionable insights to improve your performance.
The email function of ChatGPT has us feeling a 50/50 love-hate type of way, Starting from the top, we would never use ‘Dear’ in an email to our clients, it’s too formal and too impersonal.
The opening paragraph is great though, it gets straight to the point with what we would like to advertise to our email list and isn’t pushy or too much.
We are impressed by how well it compiled the bullet points, but there may be a little tweaking needed here to fully show a potential client what these services mean.
As per a sales email, the bottom 3 paragraphs are a bit wordy and could be more streamlined had this been written by a human being, and although they have managed to find and use our general enquiries email address they couldn’t secure our phone number.
We do like that the email mentioned our free PPC audit which is something we advertise on both our website and social media. However, this doesn’t belong as a postscript, this easily could’ve been higher up in the email to drive interest in the audit.
Overall, it works but emails may need a higher level of human input.
Us: Can you write a meta description for this website please https://roardigitalmarketing.co.uk/youtube-seo-secrets-improve-optimisation-in-2023/
ChatGPT: Get ahead of the competition with the latest YouTube SEO secrets from Roar Digital Marketing. Improve your video optimization in 2023 and drive more traffic to your channel with our expert tips and strategies.
Us: Can you write a 150-word meta description about this webpage please: https://roardigitalmarketing.co.uk/creating-quality-social-media-assets-for-2023/
ChatGPT: “Creating quality social media assets is vital for any business in 2023. At Roar Digital Marketing, we understand the importance of captivating visuals and compelling content to drive engagement and growth on social media platforms.
Our team of experts will guide you through the process of creating stunning graphics, videos, and written content that resonates with your target audience. Whether you’re a small business just starting out or an established brand looking to stay relevant, we’ve got the tools and expertise to help you succeed in 2023.”
In terms of meta descriptions, the first one we can’t fault. It was short, snappy and fit in the meta description best practice character limit. We really enjoyed the encouraging language used to inspire our readers to get ahead of their competition.
However, when asked specifically to stick to 150 words, ChatGPT went off on a pretty lengthy tangent here. They went well over the best practices limit and overall the language was a bit too much.
A meta description is supposed to let your potential reader know what your page is about. To us, this AI-written meta-description is confusing, messy and far too much. It doesn’t tease a topic, it says the same thing just in different wording.
Us: can you write a caption for my picture about growth on Linkedin?
ChatGPT: “Growing and learning every day on LinkedIn! Excited to see where this journey takes me. #growth #learning #LinkedIn”
We were not expecting too much when it comes to captions, the ones it generated were simple but they work. And, we were pleasantly surprised to see how artificial intelligence can actually bring some hashtags into the mix. We would personally go with some other more effective hashtags from our own research but it certainly doesn’t take time to edit these.
ChatGPT is it on the up? Or will we see it disappear from the depths of Google in a few months?
It’s on the up – ChatGPT is going nowhere, but neither is the human content writers. You see, ChatGPT has a unique ability to do more than half the content writing process which means a lot of currently busy hands can lend themselves to other projects and pieces of work.
It will also provide businesses that say can’t or don’t have a content creation team right now to create simple and relevant content. Although a lot more steps must go into creating worthwhile content that ranks, this is the perfect tool to start out. And, businesses could even create the content using ChatGPT and optimise it at a later date.
We feel strongly that ChatGPT will fall out of its trial phrase as a more effective, streamlined and smarter application helping businesses to churn out quality content quickly and efficiently.
Do you need help creating effective content for your website or blog? We can help you spruce up your content game by providing better resources for your audience!
(Yes we used artificial intelligence for that smooth call to action😉)
