Outrank your Competitors Easily on Google in 2023
Today, the competition to hit that #1 spot on Google is intense. In this blog, you will learn how to outrank your competitors easily on Google this year.
Keyword research
Keyword research is vital when it comes to ranking on Google in 2023. Without conducting keyword research, you will be left without key terms to target in your marketing strategy. And more importantly, you will be left with no data on what your audience is searching for online.
Find keywords related to your industry with low difficulty and some search volume behind them. Use these keywords to optimise your service pages. This is so they include everything your target customer would be looking for in relation to your service.
When creating blog posts for your website, your keyword should be included an appropriate amount of times. Try to include your keyword at 0.5%-1% of your content’s word count. As your confidence in SEO grows, play around with the keyword density. You can complete split tests to determine what works best for you and your site
- How to work out the keyword density of your blog post
N.o of times keyword appears in your content ÷ word count
X by 100 = keyword density percentage
Example:
8 ÷ 1000 = 0.008 x 100 = 0.8
Optimising Your Service Pages
Optimising your service pages is a vital step in outranking your competitors easily this year. Keywords will allow search engines to determine how your website fits a user’s search terms.
Optimising with the right keywords lets Google and Bing understand what your website is about. They can then decide where you should rank amongst search results.
By optimising your service pages with the correct keywords, you can drive more traffic to your site. All whilst targeting the key terms your ideal visitors are using. More traffic can result in your products or services reaching more people or potential customers.
Five tips for using your keyword on service pages:
- Include the keyword in your title
- Include the keyword in an H1
- Use the 0.5-1% density method
- Include your keyword in the image alt text (and describe the content)
- Include the keyword in video titles
Create Helpful, Optimised Content
The best way to get your website to rank higher is by creating helpful, engaging content. In Google announced 2022 its new helpful content update.
The update aims to rank websites based on how helpful content is to the reader. This is opposed to creating content which aims purely to rank highly online.
Google said:
The helpful content update aims to better reward content where visitors feel they’ve had a satisfying experience. While content that doesn’t meet a visitor’s expectations won’t perform as well.
You should consider things like does your content cover the topic fully? Are you adding more value over your competitors? Are you just putting out tonnes of content instead of quality content?

When creating helpful content, this doesn’t just mean words. This can include visuals, including graphs, videos and images. Google has said it will now start to prioritise and include visual content on search results which may highlight YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok content.
Visual content will catch people’s attention. It will grab a user and give you a better opportunity to keep them on your webpage. Therefore they will engage longer, and you provide a better user experience.
Statistics have shown that web pages with great images can get up to 94% more views than those without images. Well-thought-out, eye-catching visuals will result in a lower bounce rate, higher CTR and potentially a rising conversion rate.
Stick to your brand palette and consider your colour choices. Create simple yet valuable imagery and consider what your target audience will value. Simpler visuals are often much more effective than heavily detailed ones.
This is because they don’t distract readers completely from the focus of the piece. Don’t forget about charts, videos or images etc., to encourage your reader to remain on your site for longer.
Optimise Your Google Business Profile
Optimising your Google Business profile is incredibly beneficial to improve your online visibility. Google Business Profiles allow businesses to create a customised profile, including images, contact details,
Google Business helps businesses get listed in searches for local businesses or services and attract more customers from your local area.
If someone interacts with your Google Business Profile, there is over a 50% chance that they will visit your website.
Update Your Content Regularly
We’re certainly not encouraging you to post a blog a day, but your content should be updated regularly. Search engines love content and will use updated content as an indicator of how relevant your website currently is.
Schedule in time to complete a content audit every few weeks or months. Then you can make updates as and when required.
To update your content regularly:
- Write additional content
- Use keyword phrases
- Internal linking to other pieces of content on your site
- Refresh graphics
- Check alt text of old content
