Wooden blocks with question marks stacked up

Should I outsource my SEO management or use a DIY SEO platform?

Given that 81% of all purchases begin with a search engine, an SEO-optimised site is essential for any firm wanting to compete online. But how best to do this?

Traditionally, businesses might hire an SEO superhero or two to help with their SEO management. However, the sheer scope of SEO in 2022 rules this out for all but the biggest organisations.

It’s a much more logical option to outsource SEO management to a specialist agency these days, and those wanting a compromise have a third option – using a DIY SEO platform.

Which option is best for your business? Well, that depends on a variety of factors, including budget and how ‘hands-on’ you like to be when it comes to your digital marketing. Let’s have a look at both options in-depth to find the fit that works best for you.

What are SEO management services?

Professional SEO management services are usually provided by specialist agencies. Instead of hiring a person to work on SEO in-house, all SEO is outsourced to a third party.

As with any skill-set, you’ll find various levels of expertise within the industry. Some will have Proustian-like knowledge, others, ahem, less so. But as a rule, SEO management services should include everything from a website audit to creating a content strategy and building a link profile.

What is included in a managed SEO campaign?

SEO marketing services can be loosely arranged into three key areas: on-page, off-page, and technical. An SEO management agency should look at all three facets and build a strategy based on whatever needs to be done to improve your site’s performance.

  • On-page SEO

‘On-page’ elements of SEO concern what users’ see on your website – the content, lay-out, navigation and visuals. The fancy stuff, in a nutshell.

  • Off-page SEO

Off-page SEO relates to your wider internet presence, such as earning links from other sites. It’s thought that nearly a quarter of a website’s SEO value is earned through its link profile. Off-page is a little less fancy than on-page, but just as important.

  • Technical SEO

Technical SEO is crucial to improve the readability of your site for both search engines and users. It’s not fancy in the slightest, but it’s as essential as butter is to toast.

The alternative: DIY SEO software

Depending on size, not all businesses have the option to outsource an SEO management campaign. DIY SEO software – sometimes called an SEO task management tool – is the alternative here.

DIY SEO software allows an enterprise of any size to manage their own SEO, with the resources they already have. You don’t need to be an SEO Jedi Knight, and you can learn the basics’ as-you-go’. Just like Luke Skywalker.

The choice of DIY SEO software is HUGE and you’ll find packages available for all price-points. Rather than attempt to review the 100s of different software platforms available, we’ll take you through our own – the DIY SEO Action Engine.

Why should I use ROAR’s DIY SEO Software for my SEO management?

Now, it’s a huge part of our mission to make SEO and other forms of digital marketing accessible to all. ROAR’s DIY SEO software is part of our goal to level the playing field, enabling firms of all sizes to join the digital marketing party (do bring a bottle!)

We can arrange initial training sessions on using the software, and on any other SEO issues. And in future, we can happily offer task management of any specific jobs that make you want to run away and hide in a corner. But SEO management is yours, with no need to hire new staff.

It’s simply about finding whatever works best for you and your business. With 70% of all clicks occurring on the first page of Google’s search results, both outsourcing and using a DIY platform are effective methods aimed at making your site rank as highly as possible.

We understand that our DIY SEO Platform might not be the best fit for you. So we’d recommend taking a look at these three tools as well. After all variety is the spice of life, and we’d hate to see you miss out on the right fit for you and your business.

  1. SEMrush
  2. Ahrefs
  3. Conductor

Which option is right for me?

There are pros and cons to both outsourcing to an SEO management company and using a DIY SEO platform. If you’re looking to decide between the two, ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Where does my site currently sit on Google’s rankings?
  2. How much budget can I afford to allocate to SEO?
  3. How much time can my existing workforce allocate to SEO?

Your answers should reveal what will work best for your business at this moment in time. And remember – there’s no ‘bad’ option. We’ve seen both methods bring about fabulous results for our clients, so it’s a simple case of resources.

Either way, there are no hurdles to businesses getting involved in SEO in 2022!
